Otter Pool Lodge Full Details

Otter Pool Lodge main page

Otter Pool Lodge is an outstanding example of a restoration project to a 19th Century Sleeper Cottage (These Lodges became very popular in the Highlands with the arrival of the Railway in the 1880's). It has retained its rustic charm on the outside with many original features, yet the amazing internal transformation has to be experienced to be believed.

Otter Pool Lodge is approached through a mature pine wood and across open Crofting Farmland. As you approach the Lodge from the rear the first impression may be of a rather understated and unremarkable property - Do not be fooled!! As you walk from the parking area around to the front entrance of the Cottage be prepared for a massive "Wow Factor" experience, as the outstanding location and uninterrupted views of the River Spey and Cairngorm Mountains come in to view.

You enter the Lodge over the large decked area, where the Barbeque is located. Just a perfect place for Al Fresco dining or to relax with a "Sundowner" and listen to the sights and sounds of nature, perhaps seeing an Osprey fishing on the River, or the moon rise over the Mountains.

The entire Lodge is a sensory experience. The transformation of the Lodge has married contemporary Boutique styling with a rustic and cosy atmosphere. The whole effect is so unique and unusual. The pine-clad lounge with conservatory has uninterrupted river and mountain views through the large south facing picture window, a cosy Log stove and leather seats that just swallow you up. It is a place to sit and enjoy whatever the weather throws up. Imagine watching a winter snowfall rolling over the mountains whilst sitting in front of a crackling log stove, with a "Wee Dram" beside the one you love. There is of course, installed in the lounge a flat screen digital TV, with basic Sky package and MP3 dock. The Lodge also has Wi-Fi Internet access.

Because of the romantic nature of the Lodge, the bedroom has been thoughtfully designed. It opens to a sunken bath conservatory - The absolute ultimate bathing experience, with high-end Jacuzzi bath, with air, water and light features and an inset Champagne ice bucket. Just open the doors, relax and enjoy the views, the rippling of the river and the sounds of nature. The curtains and bed canopy are of fabulous fabric from Timorous Beastie The bed offers great "double spring" comfort, linens are all cotton, some Egyptian. Off the bedroom is an en-suite WC and Wash-Hand Basin.

The Country Style Kitchen looks fantastic with plenty of room to prepare that special dinner for two, or just a quick snack. There is a Dining Table with 6 Chairs. Cooking is on a 5-ring gas hob, with double oven, dishwasher, microwave and many extras for you on arrival. Off the Kitchen, the Utility Room is home to the water boiler, washing machine, tumble dryer and large fridge-freezer. The lodge also has a luxury modern wet floor shower room, with a second WC and wash hand basin.

A well designed porch allows wet gear to be removed whilst outside and hung in it’s centrally heated drying room before entering the Lodge. This is also a useful place to store sticks and a few more logs, rather than risk getting wet of an evening! One guest is entitled to fish for salmon and trout on the Alvie Estate water (during the open season) by prior arrangement. Please contact the Lodge Owner direct once you have booked should you wish to make use of this facility. Access to the river for paddling (swimming?)or fishing is a steep 100m walk, and the 30 minute riverside walk along the ‘Badenoch Way’ is one of the most scenic in the country! Enjoy.
