About Laggandhu

Discover the peace and beauty of the Scottish Highlands at Laggandhu Cottage, a lovingly restored retreat nestled in the tranquil rural setting of Dorback Estate. Surrounded by ancient woodland and rolling hills, this charming self-catering cottage is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.

As you arrive, you will be welcomed by a spacious boot room ideal for storing muddy boots, walking gear, and outdoor essentials. Inside, the heart of the home is a generous open-plan kitchen and dining area, complete with a well-equipped kitchen, large dining area, striking exposed timber beams, and a beautifully tiled wood-burning stove, a warm and welcoming space for shared meals and long conversations.

The cosy sitting room, also featuring a wood-burning stove, offers the perfect place to relax and unwind after your adventures. On the ground floor, you will also find a large bedroom, making the cottage accessible and comfortable for guests with limited mobility. Upstairs, two additional charming bedrooms and a modern shower room complete the sleeping arrangements.

The setting of Laggandhu is nothing short of magical. Peaceful, quiet, comfortable and warm
on Monday, 13 Apr 2026
Arriving just as Storm Dave set in, we were very happy to find the isolated Laggandhu very warm and comfortable. The kitchen is well organised and easy to work in. The lounge is toasty warm and cosy. Also the bedrooms are comfortably arranged. Firm beds and clean bed linen. The bathroom is nicely spacious and clean, as well as the first floor shower being ideal. Enjoying the outstanding snowy views from the hot tub in the snow is a special experience. When the snow cleared, we enjoyed sitting out on the deck, just soaking up the serenity and watching the wildlife right on the doorstep. Walks in the estate were also lovely. We visited the Fae Bothy and again enjoyed the spectacular views. Would have been nice to know if the building was accessible to visitors, but on a lovely sunny day this was no great issue. Fun things to do in the surrounding area included many walks, mountain biking at Glenlivet, canoeing on the Spey and visits to the cafe in Nethy Bridge. Everyone agreed that we'd like to go back and get another fill of peaceful solitude.

A relaxing, peaceful, location within the Cairngorms.

We stayed for a week in February at Laggandhu. What a fantastic location; waking up to snow capped Mountain views and occasionally deer in the field behind the cottage. The cottage was ideal for our family of five and the Wood Fired Hot Tub was wonderful. Plenty of stargazing, no light pollution, listening to nothing but the occasional sounds of wildlife. The appearance of deer, on most days, and watching the birds of prey enhanced our stay. Thank you to the team at Great North Lodges.

Fantastic location on the Dorback estate with views across to the Mountains. The cottage is well equipped and homely with two real fires. Not far from Nethy Bridge it felt we were nestled in the forest with wildlife all around.
