Kingussie is famous for shinty which is a competative amateur sport played in the Highlands of Scotland since ancient times. There are 12 players in each team, and the rules resemble field hockey or Irish hurling. You can watch a game at the Shinty field in Kingussie.
The Highland Folk Museum just outside Kingussie takes you back in time to experience life from 1700 to 1950 with 35 historical buildings. Ruthven Barracks were built following the Jacobite uprising of 1715 to house the British troops. The remains of the barracks can be explored today and gives a great view of the Badenoch and Strathspey valley. It is free and a lovely place for a picnic.
