Golf on Speyside

Scotland is the spiritual home of golf and has a wealth of courses to choose from, when you think of golfing in Scotland you will inevitably think of St Andrews or Turnberry and the list goes on but we do have some amazing courses on Speyside. Spey Valley in Aviemore is listed in the top 100 courses and the surrounding scenery is sensational. It is a long walk so you might want a buggie and it is never too busy, unless you count all the deer as busy! Our very own Coorie Lodge is right next to the course so if you want to have the full experience stay with us and golf all week.

We also have Boat of Garten Golf Course, which is an old course designed by an old master James Braid. It is only a ten minute drive from Aviemore and again has sensational views of The Cairngorms. Great North Lodges guests receive a discount when playing this course, see arrival instructions for details. Abernethy Golf Club also offers Great North Lodges guests a discounted rate, this course in Nethy Bridge is one of our favourites.

Grantown on Spey Golf Club was also designed by James Braid and Willie Park.

Kingussie Golf Club will also give you a warm welcome and has an excellent club house for lunch. Designed by Tom Morris and Harry Vardon. They hold many competitions and will accommodate golf societies and private golf outings. Suidhe Lodge, nearby, is excellent accommodation for a golf party staying over.

If, like me, you prefer a leisurely nine hole game we have Carrbridge Golf Club, which offers a challenging 9-hole course with burns and ditches along the way for you to avoid. Newtonmore Golf Club is also a course I like as it’s a nice easy, peaceful walk with lovely views.

If you are attending the Scottish Open or The Open we can organize a helicopter landing at Muckrach Country House.
