Nethy Bridge Village
Nethy Bridge is a village situated in the heart of Strathspey in the Highlands of Scotland. A perfect base from which to enjoy the Scottish Highlands and Cairngorms National Park. It sits midway between Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey. The village of Nethy Bridge, or just “Nethy”, has been a holiday destination since Victorian times. One of it’s main attractions is the ancient Caledonian pine forest. This ancient Abernethy Forest surrounds the village and hence why the village is also known as the forest village.
Flowing through the centre of the village, the River Nethy is one of the main tributaries of the River Spey.
The forests around Nethy are full of interesting wildlife from Red Squirrels, Crested Tits, Crossbills and Capercaillie, to the rarely spotted Pine Martens and even rarer Wild Cat. There are also rare flowers like the sweet-scented Twinflower and a tiny orchid called Creeping Ladies Tresses. They also offer some fantastic woodland walking trials and the Nethy Bridge Walks leaflet gives you details on various different walks in the area.
The bridge over the River Nethy, built in 1810 is a classic Thomas Telford design with three arches. It’s at the heart of the village spanning the lower reaches of the River Nethy a mile before it reaches the River Spey which is one of Scotland’s foremost salmon rivers.
